Agip pipeline explosion: 4 rescued, 2 still missing in Bayelsa

NO fewer than four persons have been rescued, while two others are still missing at the Agip oil fields pipeline explosion that led to the death of 12 persons in Azuzuama/Tebidaba communities of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
It will be recalled that the Agip trunk burst into flames last week during a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) comprising Agip officials, representative of host communities and staff of the state Ministry of Health.
Spokesman of Eni, Mr Filipo Cotalini, which is a parent company of Agip, said the wildfire from the trunk line that exploded was being investigated.
“Eni informs that an explosion occurred yesterday, 9 July late afternoon, at the site of the repair works of the Tebidaba-Clough Creek line, an oil pipeline in Nigeria’s onshore Niger Delta, previously damaged by acts of sabotage.
“The explosion resulted in the death of 12 members of the maintenance team of a local company of services, with three others being injured.
“The company expresses its deepest condolences to the families involved in this tragic accident,” the firm stated.
A source in the Bayelsa Ministry of Environment confirmed that its staff on the visit was safe and unhurt.
The State Police Command, however, confirmed the release of four persons, even as it noted that they were undergoing treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
 Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Asinim Butstwat, said that the marine and anti-kidnapping unit of the command was on top of the situation, even as he assured that the police would continue to work round the clock to recover the two persons still missing.
