The new leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been jittery over the success of its just concluded national convention.
In a statement on Sunday by the new National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr, Kola Ologbondiyan, described criticism of the conduct of its Saturday’s elective convention by the APC as laughable.

Governor Fayose recalls six out of the 16 sacked commissioners

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has recalled six out of the 16 sacked commissioners just a week after dissolving the State Executive Council in a major decision.

In a statement through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose on Sunday directed the recall commissioners to return to their duty post on Monday (today).

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will soon approve the setting up of a 29-man committee to engage organised labour in negotiating a new national minimum wage for workers in the country.
The minister also hinted that the report of the National Minimum Wage Review Committee soon to be set up by the President will be subjected to scrutiny by the National Assembly before it is implemented by government.

Senate suspends policy banning car import through land borders
The Senate yesterday resolved to ask the Customs to suspend action on its policy to ban importation of vehicles through land borders, which was to take effect on January 1.
Senate’s resolution followed a motion by Barau Jibrin (Kano North) and five others.
Jibrin drew members’ attention to the Federal Government’s policy to stop car importation through land borders from January 1.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo said the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission did not follow the laid down regulations in ordering the bank to freeze the accounts.

Ex-UNILAG beggar becomes lawyer, thanks PUNCH

A former street beggar, Mr. Abdulsalam Idowu, heaved a sigh of fulfilment of a life ambition as he was called to the bar to start practising as a lawyer in Nigeria on Wednesday.
Idowu, who defied all odds, to bag his law degree from the University of Lagos in 2015, had proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where he emerged successful in the August/September 2016 final bar examinations conducted at the end of the one-year programme.

More than two months after popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, AKA Basketmouth, was robbed in his home at Lekki, Lagos, the police have apprehended the suspects and paraded them before journalists at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja.
The leader of the three-man gang who attacked Basketmouth, 24-year-old Chibuzor Ugwu,  explained that they simply stumbled on the comedian’s house during their robbery spree on September 7.

Borno to close IDP camps in May 2017 – Shettima

The Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, says all Internally Displaced Person camps in the state would be closed down by May 29, 2017.
Shettima told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Maiduguri, that the state has nearly two million displaced persons.
He said the government had placed priority on the reconstruction of communities destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents, to facilitate the return of IDPs to their towns and villages.

Court jails Benue executive secretary for slapping subordinate

A chief magistrate’s court sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Thursday sentenced the Executive Secretary of Teaching Service Board, Makurdi, James Pine, to five months  imprisonment.
Pine was charged to court for assaulting his subordinate  in March, 13, 2016.
Pine was charged with assault  and criminal use of force, an act punishable under Section 268 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State 2004.

 The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the calls for the postponement of the November 26 governorship poll in Ondo State, saying there is no justifiable reason to delay the election.
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), on Thursday, who visited the state chapter of INEC to lodge a protest, called for the postponement of the election.

Super Eagles rise 10 places on FIFA ranking


The Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their rise in the latest FIFA Ranking jumping 10 places from 60 to 50 in the world and six in Africa.
Since the last FIFA Ranking, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have won two games against Zambia  and Algeria to take command of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying group.
Argentina remain top for November, but have seen their command on the summit weakened by close rivals Brazil (2, up 1).
