Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday came hard on President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to fix the country’s economy as he promised during electioneering rather than expressing frustration at the gloomy economic situation.
Obasanjo spoke during a lecture he delivered at the First Akintola Williams Annual Lecture in Lagos titled, “Nigeria yesterday, today and tomorrow: Governance and accountability.’’

In a judgment lasting three tension-soaked hours, the Appeal Court, Abuja, resolved the controversy surrounding the governorship ticket of the Ondo Peoples Democratic Party in favour of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, sending the PDP supporters in the 40-year-old state into wild jubilation.
The judgment delivered on Wednesday by the Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led three-member panel lifted the pall of uncertainty hanging over the governorship ticket that had pitted business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim, against a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Eyitayo Jegede.

Postponing Ondo election best option, says Fayose

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has reiterated the call by the Peoples’ Democratic Party for the postponement of the Ondo governorship election.
Reacting to the victory of the party’s candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, Fayose told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that the electoral body should postpone the election as it did recently in Edo.

A commercial driver, Taiwo Oladepo, on Wednesday prayed an Agege Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his 11-year-old marriage over alleged lack of care and submission by the woman.
Thirty-five-year-old Taiwo, father of four, resides at No. 29, Anthony Nwosu, Ileke Estate., Meiran, Lagos.
He claimed that his 36-year-old wife, Biola, was troublesome, disobedient, not submissive and not caring.

ASUU ends strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday confirmed that it had ended its one week nationwide warning strike over the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.
The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who said this in Abuja, urged lecturers to return back to their classrooms.

Trump urged to denounce white nationalists supporters

Donald Trump faced growing calls Tuesday to denounce a fringe white nationalist group that celebrated his election win with rousing Nazi salutes.
The so-called National Policy Institute held a conference Saturday around the corner from the White House. It had been scheduled before the results of the November 8 election were known.
The group describes itself as an organization dedicated to “the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States, and around the world.” It is part of the far-right movement known as the alt-right.

Accused presents forged documents as collateral

An accused person standing trial for forgery before the Warri Chief Magistrates Court in Delta State, Mr. John Ugboruhioba, has presented forged documents of a Mercedes Benz saloon car as collateral.
Ugboruhioba, said to be a money lender, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with an option of N40,000, for forgery.

70-year-old arrested for raping girl, 8

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Gabriel Akindele, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl, who is deaf and dumb.
The incident was said to have happened on Tuesday on Michael Ayegusi Street, Owode Ijako, in the Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of the state.

Judge in fresh trouble for receiving N5m from SAN

Sources within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told our correspondent that the SAN had been invited to explain what the money was meant for.

Fraud: Court sentences ex-bank manager to 195 years imprisonment

A high court in Kano State on Friday sentenced a micro-finance bank manager, Aliyu Suleiman, to 195 years in prison for stealing N21m.
In her judgment, the presiding judge, Dije Abdu Aboki also ordered Suleiman to refund N14,815,000 to the owners of the bank, Albasu community, or spend five more years in prison.

Factory-Bred Mosquitoes To Wipe Out Zika, Dengue, Yellow Fever

Scientists in Brazil are preparing to release millions of factory-bred mosquitoes in an attempt to wipe out tropical diseases.
British firm Oxitec says its genetically modified mosquitoes will swarm in among ordinary species such as Aedes aegypti, the insect that carries feared diseases such as Zika, dengue and yellow fever.
